Growing studio of New York contemporary artist seeks assistant.
Small
Brooklyn based artist studio seeks general assistant during key
transitional period from emerging to mid-career status. The work you
will be supporting is multifaceted, covering a range of media and
modalities from sculpture to performance to video to painting to
installation. Much of the work is heavily invested in contemporary
environmental and political concerns.
Initial job responsibilities to include but not limited to:
- Grant research, writing and editing
- Materials and services sourcing
- Project, site and opportunities research
- Maintenance and continued development of media identity
- Event planning
- Calendar management
- Co-management of logistic components of medium to large scale art events and happenings
Ideal applicants should be:
- punctual, professional and neat in appearance
- detail oriented, thorough and efficient
- a self-starter
- willing to learn
- able to work equally well both collaboratively and individually
- able to simultaneously manage short and long-term deadlines
- able fluidly move between multiple appropriate technical, arts and publicity writing styles
- able to adjust and adapt to rapidly shifting work priorities in a dynamic work environment
- able to accommodate irregular work hours when projects demand
- able to use basic office, scheduling and graphics software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Photoshop and Illustrator
- able to manage multiple social media platforms including facebook, instagram and twitter
- interested in and knowledgeable of contemporary art and pressing environmental issues
- be 18 years of age with valid U.S. tax ID
This
part-time position starts at 10 – 20 hrs/week at an hourly rate of
$8-$12 depending upon qualifications and experience. There is
opportunity for growth in hours, pay and responsibilities based upon
performance and growth of studio.

diverse writing backgrounds should supply additional samples
representing your range of ability. Applicants with other arts related
abilities (photography, lighting, backgrounds in sculpture, painting,
drawing, theatre, dance, etc.) should make these additional interests
and abilities known when applying and provide links to relevant works
samples where available.
