Flexibility, enthusiasm, good writing, photography and computer skills are a must.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Research
Writing press releases and artist biographies,
Photography and editing of artwork for our website,
Packaging and shipping,
Matting and handling of prints,
Receiving visitors,

Updating inventory and mailing list databases
Installation of exhibitions,
General back office gallery work

Responsibilities:
-Greet customers, help them select merchandise, and respond to their questions in a friendly and professional manner. He or she will provide customers with exceptional assistance by actively engaging them in the sales process while guiding them through our floors of period furniture, lighting, antiques, and decorative arts.
-Develop and maintain knowledge of our inventory and services to help facilitate and increase sales.
-Accurately operate Point of Sales System (register) using various functions such as cash and credit card transactions.

Requirements:
-Gallery experience with a furniture or decorative arts background
-Outstanding organizational, communications, and networking skills essential
-Knowledge of the interior design trade and twentieth-century furnishings
-Computer and internet savvy
-Experience in managing online sales
-Team player with a broad view
-Common sense and good judgment
-Weekend work a must along with a great sense of humor

Mike Weiss Gallery is looking for an enthusiastic and professional individual for a paid internship as a Gallery Assistant/Receptionist, starting immediately.  The ideal candidate should have a strong knowledge of contemporary art, excellent verbal and written communication skills, possess a strong work ethic, and maintain a flexible schedule.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
-Overseeing the physical appearance of the gallery and office

-Interacting with visitors, clients and artists by phone, email, and in person

-Digital imaging in Photoshop

-Data entry and database maintenance in Artsystems

This individual will be the first person visitors encounter when entering the gallery.  A confident and pleasant demeanor is essential, as is the ability to multitask and maintain composure under pressure.

We are looking for a minimum of 3 days per week with a 3-month commitment.  This is an excellent learning experience for someone interested in a career in the arts. While this is a part-time temporary position, it could turn into full-time for the right person.

Applicant must have an incredible attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, proficiency in QuickBooks for PC and extensive bookkeeping experience. Previous bookkeeping experience for an art gallery is not required, but would be preferred.

Duties include accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliations and journal entries for bi-weekly payroll, benefits, employee expense reimbursements and corporate credit card use. Also included are year-end audit duties, year-end accruals, locating paperwork for auditors and preparing schedules.

Schedule is extremely flexible with a total of approximately 15 to 20 hours per week.

We are currently seeking a motivated, intelligent and aware individual to join the team of our new gallery.  As the front desk attendant, you will be the first person that our public and clients interact with.   Additional job duties include general gallery administration (processing mailings, assisting in the management of image and press archives, compiling correspondence and PowerPoint presentations for clients and artists, event planning, ordering supplies, etc.) in addition to direct & dynamic interactions with our artists, clients, and friends.  This position will also provide the opportunity to contribute to the gallery by performing art historical research and being a part of our community activities – from attending gallery dinners to invitations to exclusive events.  The right candidate will be bright and ambitious, and will be able to adapt as the gallery & artists continue to expand and progress.

About you:You are interested in art, culture, and aesthetics.  You may be interested in design and fashion.  You have strong administrative skills, are naturally well-organized, and are excited by the challenges of a career in contemporary art.  You must be a master of Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Fluency in a second language is strongly preferred. You think about culture, music, art, art theory, history, and media constantly.  You understand the business of art & wish to be a part of it.  You have a bachelor's degree in Art History, Visual Culture, or other pertinent field.  You have working experience in any administrative function that requires fast-paced customer service skills – like working in retail, hospitality, or a high-level internship at another gallery or museum.  You understand that the core responsibilities of this job must be attended to, and want to execute them above and beyond and with sincerity, curiosity, and dedication. You are able to work Wednesday through Saturday 10-6 p.m.
