General Description:
This
position is responsible for all interaction between the Visitor
Services department and the visiting public. This includes sales of
admissions, Audio Guides, and memberships, as well as fulfilling all
requests for information. Further related activities involve demographic
surveys,clerical work, stockroom work, and assistance with cashier
office operations.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
• Admissions System operation.
• Greet, advise and direct visitors to facilities and services at the Museum and explain Museum rules and policies.
• Membership sales.
• Audio Guide sales, distribution, demonstration, troubleshooting, and daily operations set-up and breakdown.
• Switchboard and Information Desk telephone inquiry operations.
• Cashier Office assistance, including audit counts and clerical duties.
• Periodic visitor surveys.
• Other related duties
Requirements and Qualifications:
Experience and Skills:
• Excellent communication and public relations experience and ability to impart Museum
policies to visitors with accuracy and grace.
• Cash operation experience is essential.
• Must work weekends, and should be available during most holidays.
Knowledge and Education:
• Art History or Fine Arts background.
• New York City tourism knowledge preferred (i.e. transportation, geography, other museums
and attractions).
• Proficiency in French or Spanish preferred. All foreign language skills desirable.
• Computer skills essential, especially Microsoft Windows software applications.
