General Description:
Provides customer services on the selling floors that exceeds the customer’s expectations and assist the Manager in achieving sales goals. Participates in zone coverage of the selling floor. Contributes to shop and stock maintenance. This position reports to Store Manager and other supervisory staff at the direction of the Manager. This is a part-time position with a variety of shifts available.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Greets or acknowledges all customers entering the shop, approaching sales location, or on the phone. Learns customer’s shopping purpose
  • Engages customer in sales oriented conversations, sells to customer, up-sells to customer. Closes sales by using knowledge of product and procedures helpful to customer
  • Processes payment at register using current selling script; follows current cash, check, and credit procedures
  • Provides coverage of selling floor when not on register; answers customer questions, escorts customers to merchandise, performs shop maintenance in area adjacent to selling counter, participates in loss prevention efforts
  • Observes schedule, maintains good attendance and punctuality
  • Assist with maintenance of shop and stock by cleaning, straightening, requisitioning merchandise, ticketing, restocking, as needed
  • Participates in annual inventory process
  • Other related duties
Requirements and Qualifications:
Experience and Skills:
  • Sales oriented
  • Outgoing, good interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Experience with people in a work environment required
  • Ability to learn requirements of the job such as register functions, product information, location of merchandise, etc.
Knowledge and Education:
  • Art History background preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent

The MET - Visitor Services Assistant - Group Services

The Metropolitan Museum of Art seeks part-time Visitor Services Assistants for the Group Services division.

Assistants are needed to staff two group check-in desks. You will be required to work at least
one weekend day and possibly Friday or Saturday evening until 8:00 p.m. The starting schedule
is 3 days a week. You must be able to commit to your schedule and be willing to work during
holiday weekends and seasons.
Assistants will report directly to the Associate Coordinators and Associate Manager of the
division.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
· Facilitate check-in of all groups to the Museum (kindergarten thru senior adults)
· Communicate and enforce Museum policies
· Staff the will-call / advance ticket areas
· Record necessary information for database management and statistics
· Maintain an accurate cash register
· Provide office support when needed
· Additional duties

Requirements and Qualifications:
Experience and Skills:
· You must be detail-oriented and people-oriented.
· You must be able to work efficiently and accurately.
· You must be a team player who is willing to take initiative.
· Customer service and cash management experience required.
· Computer proficiency is required. Database experience is preferred.
· Fine Art / Art History background preferred.
· Experience working with children is a plus.
· Fluency in at least one other foreign language (Spanish, French, Japanese, Mandarin, etc.) in addition to English is a plus.

Knowledge and Education:
· Art History or Fine Arts background preferred
· College degree preferred
· New York City tourism knowledge preferred (i.e. transportation, geography, other museums
and attractions.)
· Computer skills essential, especially Microsoft Windows software applications.

The MET - Membership Services Assistant

This position is responsible for acting as a host for the Patrons Lounge and performing administratve duties for the Membership Department. Responsibiltites include, but are not limited to, having full knowledge of daily Museum activities, answering Member and Visitor questions, responding to inquiries from Retail regarding Membership status of shoppers, and keeping the Lounge clean and organizied. A Member’s overall experience at the Patrons Lounge will depend greatly on the interaction with this staff person. The Membership Department relies on this staff member to enter Member address changes into PledgeMaker and assist with data entry as well as with Membership card fulfillment and invitation mailings. This is a part-time position.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Greet Members and Visitors
  • Keep FYI and Reservation Book up to date
  • Answer phones
  • Maintain the appearance of the Patrons Lounge
  • Assist Members, guests, and waiters during events in the Membership Private Dining Rooms
  • Enter Membership demographic information into computer system to maintain updated Membership records
  • Support department staff when needed
  • Other related duties

  • Must be friendly, helpful, and discreet
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Computer literate
Knowledge and Education:
  • Knowledge of the Museum in general
  • Good working knowledge of database and word processing software
