AVAILABLE POSITIONS:1. Enthusiastic, warm,  and dedicated children’s art instructor for private classes, kids art birthday parties, and weekly after school art classes in painting, drawing and mixed-media art.  Children are ages 4-16. Ongoing availability on Saturdays and Sundays a MUST.

2. Enthusiastic, nurturing and engaging people-person to be an adult art instructor for weeknight and weekend “total beginner” 1-Nite Cocktails and Painting Parties,
1-time  beginner outdoor drawing classes , weekly drawing, painting and mixed-media classes. Available for private classes, private events and substituting for other instructors on our team. Saturday and Sunday availability a must.

POSITION SUMMARY:The instructors at The Art Studio NY are the nurturing inspiration to our hundreds of weekly clients. Our studio is a haven for creativity, inspiration and authentic self-expression. Our instructions use our unique,  specific teaching approach which is encouraging, uplifting, inspiring and warm.  Our teaching approach  combines artistic technique with the freedom of authentic self-expression so that the artistic spirit may flourish.  We do not focus on right/wrong, criticism nor the typical “traditional art school” approach, we focus on holistically nurturing the student creatively as we draw out their creative, artistic spirit in our compassionate studio environment.  Our students are ages 2 – 102.

YOU MUST BE/HAVE: -excellent people skills, conflict management and terrific customer service skills
-handle stressful situations with ease and grace, excellent multi-tasking
-available on Saturdays and Sundays and various hours during the week- flexible schedules desired.
-ability to follow directions and fulfill  training requirements, implement our unique approach as you teach at our events and classes
-incredibly organized, responsible, and a self-starter
-dedicated to the power of art to heal, inspire and uplift
-hard-working, committed, motivated
-interest in a long-term ongoing position
-teaching total beginners through advanced level students who practice art for inspiration, relaxation and seek a creative outlet is exciting to you
-confidence and experience teaching a wide variety of art mediums, including drawing, oil and acrylic painting, realism, abstraction, watercolor, outdoor/indoor classes, mixed-media, and more
-excellent communication skills, excellent writing skills for syllabi and lesson plans
-degree in art or art education, masters degree a plus
-teaching experience with adults and/or teens/kids

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:-excellent communication skills with studio team and students
-ability to follow directions and duplicate our studio approaches
-teaching private / group classes
-teaching all levels, beginners through advanced (primarily total beginners)
-working with students one-to-one through tailor-made instruction within groups
-conflict management
-syllabus development and meeting ongoing deadlines
-ongoing creation of inspiring projects for group and private students
-being an active member of  a committed team
-inspiring and empowering students through self-expression and creativity
-monthly team meetings
-expertise in drawing, painting and mixed-media material, expertise in realism and abstraction

POTENTIAL SCHEDULE:Children’s teacher: 2-3 partial days per week for private lessons and after school classes, Saturday and Sundays for private classes and birthday parties
Adult teacher: 2-3 partial days/evening per week for private lessons and evening classes, Saturdays and Sundays for private classes and group classes.

COMPENSATION:Hourly fee as Independent Contractor based on experience.

Title: Retail Associate – Sales
Supervisor: Associate Retail Operations Manager
Schedule: Part time, 21-24 hours/week

Description:The New Museum’s retail program is renowned in the contemporary art field and has among the highest sales per sq. of any museum retailer. The program has undergone dramatic expansion due to opening of the New Museum’s highly anticipated new building in late 2007 as well as the recent launch of several entrepreneurial retail initiatives. The Retail Associate - Sales reports to the Associate Retail Operations Manager. Work hours include weekends, evenings and encompass staffing pop-up stores, offsite events and projects.

Responsibilities:• Meets and exceeds daily sales goals.
• Follow through with customer sales and inquiries.
• Opening and closing of cash registers.
• Taking and completing mail and special orders by phone, email and fax.
• Receiving of merchandise and restocking of sold products.
• Participating in annual inventory count.
• Assist at store and off-site events.
• Light housekeeping of store.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:Candidates should have superb customer-focused sales skills, familiarity with computerized POS and inventory systems, excellent customer service skills and solid communication skills. The ability to follow through and complete assigned tasks is important for this position. Occasionally candidates must be able to lift 30 pound boxes. Knowledge of contemporary art is required. Retail experience in a book store or museum store is preferred.

Wage: $12.50/hour
